W14 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal Final Blog

 

If I had to look back over the semester and find the things that stuck out to me most in all of these lessons, I would say that honesty was the biggest one. Honesty is something that I feel most businesses do not posses. A lot of people will tell small lies or they will just not tell you the full truth. They think of it as no big deal. Looking at all of the examples that were given, I think that it goes to show that honesty is going to work out best for you. There are many instances where if somebody was honest and straight up about a mistake, they would have gotten a lot less grief for it.

Another thing that really stuck out to me was setting rules for myself. These rules will help me to maintain a healthy life. For example, some of the rules that I set were to be honest, don’t let work affect my marriage, keep the Lord involved in my decisions, don’t take the easy road, and many more. Setting these rules allows me to have a guideline for what is okay with me and what is not. I remember from one of the lessons that if I cannot follow these rules, I should close my business and do something else.

The last thing that really stuck out to me was to be charitable. Charity is such an underrated act. It is so important to strive to be like Christ. One of his attributes that I really admire is charity. I am a firm believer that being charitable can be the key to success. I think that if you give unto others, Christ will give unto you. It is so important that we take care of our brothers and sisters. I have learned so much this semester and I am so grateful for the opportunity to take this class. Thank you!

 I think that Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams because he saw a brick wall as an opportunity to show how bad he wanted something. This mindset helped him to achieve so many of his goals because he decided that he would find a way around, above, or through that wall. Brick walls are there to stop people that don't want it as much as others. He quoted "If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself and the dreams will come to you." I think that this quote is important because a lot of people will do anything for success. And yes, a lot of them will be successful, but I don't think that it will be fulfilling to them.  I think that dreaming is such an important aspect that should forever be a part of our lives. If we don't dream, we won't have goals. Dreaming is like a shimmer of light in a world that can be a very dark place. If we do not have goals and dreams, we wouldn't have successful people in life

W09 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

  The biggest thing that stuck out to me this week was Guy Kawaski’s talk. He talked about trust. I think that trust is something that has kind of gone down the drain in these last few years. I think that it becomes harder and harder to trust people every day, but I do think that there are still trustworthy people out there. He talked about the importance of trust when you are running a business. He gave examples of Amazon, Zappos, Nordstrom, and some others. I think that it is definitely an interesting concept. He talked about how people can take advantage of these companies, but they usually don’t. For example, Amazon allows you to return things like books. He said that just about anybody can read a book and return it within the allotted time, but people don’t. Amazon goes out on a limb to trust people and in turn, people trust Amazon.
