W05 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

This week I have learned a lot of different things that I will apply to my entrepreneurial journey. The first of them being to follow the hero’s journey. In the readings this week I watched a video that explained what the hero’s journey meant. One of the things that I learned from that talk was that you should never give up on finding you calling. Everybody is here for a reason and it is extremely important to find what your calling is and pursue it. You should find a calling that fits your special gifts. A tip that was given to me to figure out what my special gifts are, is to talk to at least 5 different people and ask them what they think I do better than anybody else. Ask for examples, evidence, and specifics. This will help you to start thinking about how you can apply those gifts into your calling. Another thing that was pointed out was the moral code. It is so important to have a moral code of rules that you will never break. If you find yourself breaking one of those rules, it is time to stop and move on to something else, you are not in your calling. Another thing that I found interesting was to not try to be the smartest person in the room. If you try to be that, you will carry around a big ego with you. That is not what it is about. It is important to do something that will help to improve the world. In the video it was mentioned that you should interview people of different ages. It also talked about how people that are older than 60 always have the same answers. They always ask “Have I contributed something meaningful?”, “Am I a good person?”, and “Who did I love and who loved me?”. These are questions that you should consider when you are searching for your calling. If you do something for the money, your heart will never be fully into it. Do something meaningful so that when you look back when you are older you can see how you have touched the lives of so many different people. Do something that you will be proud of.
