W11 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal
This week I have learned about the importance of prioritizing your work and home life. This week we were given two different scenarios. I the first scenario, we were told that we had promised our daughter to be at her first dance recital, but we get a last-minute call about a client that needs us right now. We are the only person that can help, and it is time sensitive. In this scenario I decided that it would be better to go take care of business. That might sound harsh, but you need to do what is best for your family. It would be very difficult to try to explain to your daughter why you missed her event, but to me, it is more important to be able to feed your family. it will not always to possible to please everybody and keep everybody happy. In this specific scenario we know that if we do not show up, we will lose this client. This client consists of 50% of our business. In my eyes, it is very possible that you might struggle to feed your family and your business will take a huge hit if you lose 50% of your work. In the second scenario we have a guy that has always dreamed of being a successful football coach. He has worked countless hours to be able to achieve his dream. Once it finally starts to come true, his wife files for divorce. She said that the main reason was because he was always on the road, and he was not around very much for their four-year-old child. In this scenario I would give up coaching and be there for my family. To me, it is more important to be there for my family than to chase my dreams. I think that you should try as hard as you possibly can to save a marriage before trying to save a dream. It's about being selfless rather than selfish.
