W13 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal
This week has taught me about the importance of being a
lifelong learner. We did a case study about a man named Randy Haykin. Some
things that I was able to take away from this case study were to always be a
lifelong learner. In this case study it talked a lot about how Randy is a
lifelong learner. He would always put himself in a position to learn from his
mentors and actually implement the advice that he was given. For example, he
was originally planning to go into tech. He was talking with one of his
professors and the Harvard Business School and his professor told him that he
should go into sales because it would be better for his career. Another thing
that I was able to take away was to learn how to adapt quickly. In this case
study Randy was given the opportunity to transition from sales into leadership.
It was a hard transition for him but he was able to learn and adapt quickly.
His company was also experiencing extreme growth and development. He had to
learn how to adapt and roll with the market condition. This was a good lesson
for me because I feel like that is something that I struggle with. I take a
really long time to fully understand something and sometimes that doesn’t allow
me to adapt as quickly as I think I should be able to. A question that I was asked
this week was if I thought that being an entrepreneur was worth the risk. To me,
it is. I know how much potential there is out there and I know that I can capitalize
on that opportunity. I think that there is so much more potential as an
entrepreneur rather than if I were to go work a 9-5 for somebody else for the rest
of my life.
