W14 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal Final Blog

If I had to look back over the semester and find the things that stuck out to me most in all of these lessons, I would say that honesty was the biggest one. Honesty is something that I feel most businesses do not posses. A lot of people will tell small lies or they will just not tell you the full truth. They think of it as no big deal. Looking at all of the examples that were given, I think that it goes to show that honesty is going to work out best for you. There are many instances where if somebody was honest and straight up about a mistake, they would have gotten a lot less grief for it. Another thing that really stuck out to me was setting rules for myself. These rules will help me to maintain a healthy life. For example, some of the rules that I set were to be honest, don’t let work affect my marriage, keep the Lord involved in my decisions, don’t take the easy road, and many more. Setting these rules allows me to have a guideline for what is okay with me and what is not. I re

W13 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

This week has taught me about the importance of being a lifelong learner. We did a case study about a man named Randy Haykin. Some things that I was able to take away from this case study were to always be a lifelong learner. In this case study it talked a lot about how Randy is a lifelong learner. He would always put himself in a position to learn from his mentors and actually implement the advice that he was given. For example, he was originally planning to go into tech. He was talking with one of his professors and the Harvard Business School and his professor told him that he should go into sales because it would be better for his career. Another thing that I was able to take away was to learn how to adapt quickly. In this case study Randy was given the opportunity to transition from sales into leadership. It was a hard transition for him but he was able to learn and adapt quickly. His company was also experiencing extreme growth and development. He had to learn how to adapt and

I have learned many great things from the material that we read and listened to this week. In the video with Sarah Endline, she talked a lot about how important it is to search and find gaps and opportunities where you can start a business. She talked about how important it is to really research your business before you decide to start it. Something that stuck out to me was “never get stuck in the mud”. To me it meant that sometimes you will not always be in control of what is going on, but you need to consistently be a problem solver. If you want to be an entrepreneur, you need to be a great problem solver. Running a business is not a spring, it is a marathon. One of the videos that really stuck out to me talked about how you don’t necessarily need to own your own business to help have a positive influence on the world. You can do great things wherever you are. In the video and talked about how you can make changes in ordinary things. She gave an example of how somebody turned their

Something that I really liked from the first video was when he talked about how normal/regular of a guy he was and how him and his company were able to achieve great things. They were ranked in #11 the first year and #6 the second year. I really liked that he mentioned to never underestimate yourself. He said something along the lines of "if you include the Lord in your decision making, you can do the impossible". I really think that is a great statement because it can be so easy to think that we know what we are doing when we move on to the real world. He knows better than any of us what is best for each and every one of us. Something that I thought was really cool from the video "Action Hero Kath Huber" was that at MIT they had entrepreneurs come to the school and throw a problem at the students and had them help to find a solution. I think that is a really great way to learn to think outside of the box. That is something that I could practice now. I could reach

W11 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

This week I have learned about the importance of prioritizing your work and home life. This week we were given two different scenarios. I the first scenario, we were told that we had promised our daughter to be at her first dance recital, but we get a last-minute call about a client that needs us right now. We are the only person that can help, and it is time sensitive. In this scenario I decided that it would be better to go take care of business. That might sound harsh, but you need to do what is best for your family. It would be very difficult to try to explain to your daughter why you missed her event, but to me, it is more important to be able to feed your family. it will not always to possible to please everybody and keep everybody happy. In this specific scenario we know that if we do not show up, we will lose this client. This client consists of 50% of our business. In my eyes, it is very possible that you might struggle to feed your family and your business will take a huge h
