 Something that I really liked from the first video was when he talked about how normal/regular of a guy he was and how him and his company were able to achieve great things. They were ranked in #11 the first year and #6 the second year. I really liked that he mentioned to never underestimate yourself. He said something along the lines of "if you include the Lord in your decision making, you can do the impossible". I really think that is a great statement because it can be so easy to think that we know what we are doing when we move on to the real world. He knows better than any of us what is best for each and every one of us. Something that I thought was really cool from the video "Action Hero Kath Huber" was that at MIT they had entrepreneurs come to the school and throw a problem at the students and had them help to find a solution.  This week I have learned about the importance of prioritizing your work and home life. This week we were given two different scenarios. I the first scenario, we were told that we had promised our daughter to be at her first dance recital, but we get a last-minute call about a client that needs us right now. We are the only person that can help, and it is time sensitive. In this scenario I decided that it would be better to go take care of business. That might sound harsh, but you need to do what is best for your family. It would be very difficult to try to explain to your daughter why you missed her event, but to me, it is more important to be able to feed your family. it will not always to possible to please everybody and keep everybody happy. In this specific scenario we know that if we do not show up, we will lose this client. This client consists of 50% of our business.   The biggest thing that stuck out to me this week was Guy Kawaski’s talk. He talked about trust. I think that trust is something that has kind of gone down the drain in these last few years. I think that it becomes harder and harder to trust people every day, but I do think that there are still trustworthy people out there. He talked about the importance of trust when you are running a business. He gave examples of Amazon, Zappos, Nordstrom, and some others. I think that it is definitely an interesting concept. He talked about how people can take advantage of these companies, but they usually don’t. For example, Amazon allows you to return things like books. He said that just about anybody can read a book and return it within the allotted time, but people don’t. Amazon goes out on a limb to trust people and in turn, people trust Amazon.   My biggest takeaways from this week were to never give up, trust in the Lord, have a good attitude, believe in good things to come, don’t underestimate yourself, and the 5 why’s. To start off I will talk about never giving up. It can be easy to give up and throw in the towel when things get hard. I think that if we truly try our hardest and do what we can, the Lord will take care of the rest. It is crucial that we endure to the end. The next topic that I will talk about trusting in the Lord. This one can go hand in hand with never giving up. The Lord will never give up on us no matter what we do. He will always be there for us. It might be hard to feel it at times and it might be hard to recognize his helping hand, but I think it is important for us to do our best to see and appreciate his help.   This week I took a lot away from our reading about the 7 habits of highly effective people. The first habit is to be proactive. Do not sit around and wait for opportunities to come to you, they rarely will. You need to go out and create those opportunities. Luck is created. Habit number two was the begin with the end in mind. If you have an end goal, you will be able to figure out the steps to get there. I have learned through my construction major about pull planning. Pull planning is essentially the same thing. An example that was given to me was going to the airport. If your plane leaves at 10 am, you must be there at least an hour early. You must leave an hour and twenty minutes before that to give yourself time to get through traffic. You then must pack before you leave. You must plan before you pack. I felt like that example really helped me to understand pull planning. Pull planning is essentially starting with the end in mind. The third thing is putting first things first...

  This week I learned about the importance of getting your priorities straight. In the videos they talked about how when you run a business you will be extremely busy. If you do not set rules for yourself, it can and will have an effect on your family and personal life. A lot of entrepreneurs work long hours and don’t even realize that it is affecting the other aspects of their life. A tip that was shared in the videos was that you should set rules for yourself and your business. An example that was shared was that he promised himself and his family that he would be home for dinner every night at 7:00. He stuck to it and that helped him to maintain a good relationship with his wife and kids. He also mentioned that there were a lot of nights that he would stay up very late after dinner to finish up the things that he had to miss to be there. This week I have learned a lot of different things that I will apply to my entrepreneurial journey. The first of them being to follow the hero’s journey. In the readings this week I watched a video that explained what the hero’s journey meant. One of the things that I learned from that talk was that you should never give up on finding you calling. Everybody is here for a reason and it is extremely important to find what your calling is and pursue it. You should find a calling that fits your special gifts. A tip that was given to me to figure out what my special gifts are, is to talk to at least 5 different people and ask them what they think I do better than anybody else. Ask for examples, evidence, and specifics. This will help you to start thinking about how you can apply those gifts into your calling. Another thing that was pointed out was the moral code.
