This week I learned a lot about the need to be prepared for the second coming. As I was reading through the scriptures, I made general list of the times that it mentions the importance of being prepared. There were stories that were compared to being prepared. In Matthew 24:42-44 it talks about how if we were waiting for a thief to come to our house, we would be ready to defend our homes and our families. Similarly, because we don't know when Jesus will return, we need to live in a way where we are prepared for His coming. I learned about how we need to do more than just occasional acts of devotion, we need to constantly be creating habits of prayer, service, faith, etc. to be ready for Him to come back. Luke 21:36 also emphasized the importance of always watching and praying so that we can be worthy to stand before Him. I have been trying hard this week to just do little things to help me be more spiritually aware. For example, when things got stressful this week, I just said a s...

This week I spent some time reading in the New Testament and one thing kept standing out to me. Jesus talks a lot about being ready and paying attention to what is important. In Matthew 24 he says, “Be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” That made me stop and think about how his return could happen at any moment and how I don’t have to wait to start preparing. The big truth is that Christ will come back to reign but the lesson I can take into my life now is that I can practice being ready every day through praying, repenting, and serving others. What really struck me is how the small everyday choices we make actually matter. Preparation doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s about the little steps I take consistently.

This week I learned some very valuable lessons. One of them being humility. This one stood out to me because of its simplicity. Sometimes it is the easiest principles that we forget the most.  In Luke 14:11 it is taught that “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” I think that this is so important because it seems to be very cut and dry here. If you humble yourselves, you will be exalted. Another lesson that I learned about was the parable of the good Samaritan in Luke 10:30-37. Basically, in this story this man had been abused, beaten, and left behind. A priest and Levite passed him by without helping, but a good Samaritan camp by to help. The lesson here is that you should not see yourself above others. You should stop to help others that are in need. True love and mercy means helping all.

This week we read about the story of Peter walking on water. This instance can be found in the following verses:  Matthew 14:22–33, Mark 6:45–56, John 6:16–21 . I really enjoyed reading this story because it reminds me of the importance of faith. In this story it teaches that faith in Jesus Christ allows us to face life's challenges with courage. I find a lot of comfort in this because it helps us to overcome these challenges especially when they are overwhelming and difficult. In this story Peter was given the power to walk on water, but he eventually started to sink because of his unbelief, fear, and doubt. When he started to sink Jesus reached out and saved him. To me this means that trusting Jesus helps us to understand and recognize His power and grow confidence in difficult and scary circumstances.

If I had to look back over the semester and find the things that stuck out to me most in all of these lessons, I would say that honesty was the biggest one. Honesty is something that I feel most businesses do not posses. A lot of people will tell small lies or they will just not tell you the full truth. They think of it as no big deal. Looking at all of the examples that were given, I think that it goes to show that honesty is going to work out best for you. There are many instances where if somebody was honest and straight up about a mistake, they would have gotten a lot less grief for it. Another thing that really stuck out to me was setting rules for myself. These rules will help me to maintain a healthy life. For example, some of the rules that I set were to be honest, don’t let work affect my marriage, keep the Lord involved in my decisions, don’t take the easy road, and many more. Setting these rules allows me to have a guideline for what is okay with me and what is not. ...

This week has taught me about the importance of being a lifelong learner. We did a case study about a man named Randy Haykin. Some things that I was able to take away from this case study were to always be a lifelong learner. In this case study it talked a lot about how Randy is a lifelong learner. He would always put himself in a position to learn from his mentors and actually implement the advice that he was given. For example, he was originally planning to go into tech. He was talking with one of his professors and the Harvard Business School and his professor told him that he should go into sales because it would be better for his career. Another thing that I was able to take away was to learn how to adapt quickly. In this case study Randy was given the opportunity to transition from sales into leadership. It was a hard transition for him but he was able to learn and adapt quickly. His company was also experiencing extreme growth and development. He had to learn how to adapt ...

W12 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Journal

I have learned many great things from the material that we read and listened to this week. In the video with Sarah Endline, she talked a lot about how important it is to search and find gaps and opportunities where you can start a business. She talked about how important it is to really research your business before you decide to start it. Something that stuck out to me was “never get stuck in the mud”. To me it meant that sometimes you will not always be in control of what is going on, but you need to consistently be a problem solver. If you want to be an entrepreneur, you need to be a great problem solver. Running a business is not a spring, it is a marathon. One of the videos that really stuck out to me talked about how you don’t necessarily need to own your own business to help have a positive influence on the world. You can do great things wherever you are. In the video and talked about how you can make changes in ordinary things. She gave an example of how somebody turned th...
